AI Scribe listens to your consultation and generates a structured draft note mapped to your template — SOAP sections or any custom structure you use. It's designed to reduce documentation time, not replace clinical judgment.
Patient consent is required before using AI Scribe. This is both a legal and ethical requirement. Do not start the scribe without first confirming consent.
How it works
When you start a recording, your microphone audio is streamed in real time to Deepgram's speech recognition service. The resulting transcript is then processed by AI to map spoken content into the sections of your note template.
Raw audio is discarded immediately — only the text transcript is retained, and it's attached to the note for audit purposes.
The scribe works for both in-person and telehealth sessions. In both cases it uses your computer's microphone.
Before you start
- Obtain patient consent. Have the conversation with your patient before starting — explain that an AI tool will transcribe the session for note-taking purposes.
- Check the consent box. On the appointment screen, tick "Patient consented to AI Scribe" before opening the note editor. The Scribe bar won't activate until this is checked.
Starting a recording
- Open the consultation note for the appointment
- Locate the Scribe bar at the bottom of the note editor
- Click Start Recording
A live transcript will appear as you and your patient speak. The scribe distinguishes between practitioner and patient speech where possible.
During the session
Let the conversation flow naturally. You'll see the transcript building in real time. If you want to check something mid-session, you can glance at the transcript panel — but you don't need to actively manage it.
Speak clearly and avoid crosstalk for best results. The scribe performs significantly better in quieter environments. Rooms with echo or background noise will produce less accurate transcripts.
Finishing and reviewing the draft
- Click Stop when the consultation is complete
- A review overlay appears with the AI-generated draft broken into your note sections
- Read through each section — edit anything that's incorrect, missing, or unclear
- Click Accept to insert the draft into your note
Accepting appends the AI content — it doesn't overwrite anything you've already typed.
Always review the AI-generated draft before signing the note. AI transcription can misinterpret clinical terminology, medication names, and dosages. The draft is a starting point — clinical responsibility for the final note remains with you.
Privacy and data handling

Your clinic's patient data does not leave Qliva's infrastructure other than the real-time stream to Deepgram for transcription processing.
