Qliva integrates with Parchment Health to issue electronic prescriptions — giving patients a QR code and token they can present at any participating pharmacy.
What is eRx?
eRx (electronic prescribing) lets your practitioners issue a prescription electronically instead of printing a paper script. The patient receives a QR code and an alphanumeric token via their patient portal. They take that token to any participating pharmacy — the pharmacist scans or enters it to dispense the medication.
Qliva uses the Parchment Health network (parchmenthealth.com.au) — Australia's electronic prescribing network.
Qliva issues private prescriptions only via eRx. PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme) prescriptions are not supported.
Who can use eRx
eRx is available to any practitioner type with a valid HPII number or prescriber number recorded on their Qliva profile — it's not restricted to a fixed list of practitioner types. In practice this covers GPs, specialists, nurse practitioners, dentists, optometrists, midwives, physiotherapists, chiropractors, podiatrists, and pharmacists, provided their profile has the relevant identifier set.
If neither an HPII number nor a prescriber number is set, the eRx option will not appear during prescribing. Set these under Admin Portal → Team → [Practitioner profile].
How it works
- The practitioner starts a prescription in Qliva
- Qliva redirects them into an embedded Parchment iframe via SSO — the prescription itself is authored inside Parchment's own UI, not inside a Qliva form
- The practitioner completes and signs the prescription in Parchment. The patient receives a notification in their patient portal with the QR code and alphanumeric token
- The patient presents the token at any participating pharmacy (in person or by phone)
- The pharmacist scans or enters the token to dispense
- Qliva learns the result asynchronously — Parchment sends a
prescription.createdwebhook, which Qliva uses to update the prescription's status
Tracking dispensing status
Practitioners can view the status of every eRx from the Prescriptions screen. The real status values are:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | Prescription is current and available to be dispensed |
| Ceased | Prescription has been ceased/ended in Parchment |
| Error | Something went wrong creating or syncing the prescription |
These reflect Parchment's own status model, not a Qliva-specific dispensing pipeline — there is no separate "dispensed" state tracked in Qliva today.
Cancelling an eRx
There is currently no in-app way to cancel or void an eRx once it has been created in Parchment — no cancel action exists anywhere in the prescribing UI or API. If a prescription needs to be cancelled, this must happen directly in Parchment or by contacting Qliva support.
Setup
Setting up the Parchment integration requires a signed agreement with Parchment Health and API credentials from them.
Steps
- Register with Parchment Health as a healthcare provider at parchmenthealth.com.au
- Sign the provider agreement with Parchment Health
- Obtain your API credentials from Parchment (Client ID and secret)
- Enter your credentials in Admin Portal → Settings → Integrations → Parchment
- Test by issuing a prescription in a sandbox or with a known test patient
The Parchment integration requires a signed agreement with Parchment Health before credentials are issued to your clinic. Contact Parchment directly to begin this process.
